Maxwell Porterfield is a spirited crowd favorite and a passionate performer! In 2014 alone she was seen in six American operas throughout the country. She performed in The Beautiful Bridegroom by Dan Shore as Laurentia (UT Opera Theater), The Box Office by Bekah Simms as the Customer (New Fangled Opera), Rapture by David Wolfson as Holly (New Fangled Opera), and The Consul as Anna Gomez (Moores Opera Center). Ms. Porterfield also covered Nina in Thomas Pasatieri’s The Seagull (Opera del West) and Lightfoot in Carlisle Floyd’s Cold Sassy Tree (MOC). She previous worked with Opera del West as Despina in Cosà fan tutte (2013).
In her undergraduate studies at the University of Houston, Ms. Porterfield was seen as Papagena in The Magic Flute, La China in Salsipuedes by Daniel Catan, Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro, The Consul, and (toward the end of her studies there) as Pamina in the Moores Opera Center’s outreach performance of The Magic Flute. Her other roles with summer festivals include Julie Jordan in Carousel, Frasquita in Carmen, Despina in Cosà fan tutte, La Novizia in Suor Angelica, and a cover for Nannetta in Falstaff.
She is now pursuing her MM at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She currently has a Young Artist position with a local company in Knoxville, Marble City Opera, and covered Musetta in their production of La Boheme this year.
